This is our house exterior. We are small farmers and are not very wealthy. We do not own a lot of land, but we have enough to get us through. We take care of our house and everything around it, including our garden. Since we are typically poor, we don't have any slaves. All of our farming is done by members of our family.
As for the inside of the house, its rooms include:
-Two Bedrooms
-Parlor
-Kitchen
-dish/laundry/dining room
-Garden
Bedroom
(two, one for parents and one for children)
To the left, there is a portion of the parents bedroom. No one, besides the parents, is allowed in here. These rooms are for sleeping, and sleeping only. Bedrooms are kept very private. Therefor, only immediate family and yourself are allowed in your bedroom.
This room typically fits a small farmer very well. Red was the most expensive color in it's time; notice how only the quilt is red. This quilt has been passed down for generations. Also, you can clearly see that on the edge of the bed frame, there are weaved in ropes. This also helps state our poorness. We have ropes that help support the mattress. The mattress is very thin and most likely uncomfortable.
Children's Bedroom- Typically, you'll be able to tell that this room is a child room. This room is selected for both genders of kids; boys and girls. This room, as well as the parents, is also kept private.
Now the toys scatters around are unlikely for most houses. Your not supposed to do anything besides sleep in your bedrooms, well this time we differ a little. We believe that if our children would like to play a little then they are very much welcome. Now this room has hard wood floors and wallpaper on the walls. The wooden floors are usually typical for small farmers. (they're not very expensive) The wallpaper is nice, but nothing fancy.
Parlor-
The Parlor serves as a place to be invited in, and speak to guests in a home. This is the room where your guests would stay much of the time (aside from eating in the dining room) , and maybe even the room they may sleep in. It could have chairs, a chest of drawers, or a bed if there is no guest room.
This photo of a parlor would be typical for a small farmers home. It is nothing too fancy, but the owner does try to make it look nice by using wallpaper instead of having a bare wall. It doesn't really need to be very good looking because a small farmer will not get very many guests, and if he did it would probably be family members. You can tell that this parlor does not see many guests because the desk does not look very organized and the floors do not look nice either.
Kitchen(1)
This is our kitchen. The kitchen is used normally for cooking food. Not very often would you eat in your kitchen. You would most likely eat in your dining room. In the kitchen you prepare your meals. Not very often will you see a kitchen cleaned. Usually, there will be pots and pans and more all over.
This kitchen is very suitable for small farmers. The oven is a fairly descent size. The kitchen is not very messy (which is normal) and not even close to fancy. The floors look horrible, the walls are plain, and it looks as iff there is only one oven, there is not a separate oven for making bread as most families would have used.
Dish&Laundry/Dining room.
This room is a very useful. It serves as a dish/laundry/dining room. As a family we would eat in here which is why is next to the kitchen. If we has guests we would eat in here, but that is pretty rare for a small farmer. We also do laundry, and wash dishes in here. As you can see there is a basket for clothing in the right corner of the photo and a bucket of water in the lower left of the photo.
During winter we wash our clothes and do our dishes inside in this very. So this room is not always used as a dish and laundry room. For each meal of the day, we eat our food on the tanle in the center back of the room. It is not very large because we have a small family and there is no reason to have such a large table.
Garden/farm-
To the right there is our farm/garden. A garden is used to plant flowers and look pretty! The farm is what we use to get by We plant foods and sell it to stores for money.
It's not very big, but it's enough. This garden/farm helps us out a lot! We grow many things in here, and without it i do not know what we would do. We do not have any slaves so we do all of our work by hand with our family. I've planted this farm since i was young, and it makes my family closer together.
